Competion rubber cones
Install some competition rubber cones they are much stiffer and will help prevent body roll.

Coil spring / rubber cone suspension conversions
Hi, I have a sports pack mini and was hoping someone might have some experience with coil spring conversions. As the sports pack has the Koni dampers, would a coil spring / rubber cone conversion be a good mod? also, what about the coil over damper conversion?

Anyone know what size the retaining nut is? Cant see a dam thing in there! according to Mr. Haynes, you get to it by a hole in the subframe.
Ta in advance

They're easy enough to replace provided you've got the proper compressor tool - there is no way round this.
While you're at it, make sure you replace the nylon cups in the knuckle joints, and if you're in the least bit suspicious of your dampers replace those as well. I just did mine at the weekend - the old ones appeared to be OK, but they'd been on there 25 years and looking knackered, so I bought a set of KYB gas ones and fitted those - the difference in the drive is amazing! You get so used to banging and crashing over the potholes that you forget what the car ought to feel like.

Just the fronts initially - but I'm going to do the rears asap.

a note on changing the cones, the earlier cones had a different thread to the later ones, think it was 76 when they changed.

You'll find it easiest to remove the cone if you take the suspension upper arm off first. This just means undoing the big nut at each end and driving out the fulcrum shaft from the suspension turret.
This sounds like more work but it will give you much better access to the rubber cone which will almost certainly be rusted into position and will need a severe whacking to get it to come out.. Whilst its out, clean all the rust and mud out of the inside of the turret and give it a good soaking in waxoyl.

rubber cones
does anyone know what the thread will be on my rover mini mayfair 1992 and does anyone know how you use the cone compressor tool
Posted: Sep 10, 2007 11:16 PM
it is metric, and you remove the tower bolt and insert the tool down the hole and turn the handle, thus pulling up the rubber cone.oil the thread before starting and clean the dirt if you can

Change the nylon cup in the top arm, when these wear they alter the ride height
